Mobile Firefox is today only available for software platforms that runs on the Nokia N810 Internet Tablets. The work to bring a new mobile firefox version for Nokia smartphones and Samsung smartphones has began.
When Mozilla started to work on a mobile version of the popular browser Firefox, they named it Fennec. The work to develop a new version of Fennec, that will be able to run on S60 platforms, has began.
Christian Sejersen, Director of Mobile Engineering at Mozilla Corporation, revealed on his blog that Mozilla need to have a presence on the Symbian platform. The new version of Fennec will likely be available in the summer 2009. Sejersen also mentioned on his blog that they can´t deploy Fennec for iPhone, RIM and Android for technical or licensing reasons.
As I mentioned above so is Mobile Firefox so far only available for software platforms that runs on the Nokia N810 Internet Tablets. To give people who don’t have a Nokia Internet Tablet the ability to localize, experiment and build add-ons, they have realeased a package for PCs that runs on Windows, Linux or OS X.
