One of the more consistent criticisms of the iPhone is that it is not a worthwhile business tool – that it lacks the power and the software to really add value to the business man or woman who wants to include their mobile phone as part of their business activities.

But this is a criticism that has become outdated – and yet people still peddle it as truth. Let us look at just why the accusation that the iPhone is no use as a business tool is one that is incorrect.

The iPhone as a business tool

One of the major reasons for the popularity of this ‘fact’ is that the iPhone DID used to have a technological handicap when it comes to being used for business. It lacked the processing speed to run multiple applications, or complex ones. But the most recent upgrade – the iPhone 3GS, has changed that by dramatically improving the hardware.

Another issue was that the old, generation 1 iPhone lacked real web capabilities. The reliance on WAP protocols meant that it was underpowered when it came to using cross internet software that required high bandwidth. This has again been solved in recent upgrades.

Equally important to the rise of the iPhone as a business tool has been the gradual development of business essential applications. The iPhone has developed from a web platform for those who want to play around to one capable of running software that can have a huge benefit to business users.

Applications including

* Accessing email servers for emails in real time
* Interacting with a companies database for contact management
* Running spreadsheets
* Providing a Pdf reader to allow reports to be read on the move

And much more besides. It provides a mobile platform that allows users to access their business needs whilst on the move – important for many different types of business people.

Don’t leave your iPhone sitting around. When you’re not using it, be certain to keep your iPhone securely on your person. These products are hot items for thieves who can turn them around quickly and make a fast buck because of your forgetfulness.

Purchase a cover for your iPhone. There are many types of covers on the market. Some are designed to protect your phone from the shock of a drop or moisture from rain, snow, etc. Some are very simple and less expensive, and give your phone basic protection from wear and the elements. Choose the cover that best goes with your taste and lifestyle.

Keep your identity and private information safe by using the password protection on your phone. Lock out nosey intruders and those who mean to attempt to steal your phone and its content.

Keep your iPhone away from sources of moisture. Depending on your iPhone cover, you might not be very well protected against something as common as a spilled drink. Certainly be cautious when you are boating, swimming, fishing, or at the beach. Dropping your phone in the toilet isn’t good for it either.

Don’t subject your iPhone to shock. Dropping your phone can cause severe damage, just as any jarring or overtly physical activity can damage it.

Invest in a mobile carrier for your phone. There are lots of carriers available in the marketplace that can be clipped or looped onto your belt to carry your phone. This is much more recommended than carrying your iPhone loosely in your purse or pocket.

Did you know that you can get iPhone insurance? Ask around at your Apple distributor. You can get insurance coverage that will replace or repair your iPhone should it be lost, stolen, or damaged.

The best security precaution for iPhone owners is awareness. Your iPhone wasn’t cheap, so respect it as an important piece of personal property. Look out for it and regard it as you might your expensive clothing or your car.

Be aware of the circumstances under which you are using your phone and do not act irresponsibly with it. Your iPhone has tremendous abilities to serve your needs and make life easier for you, so don’t discount it as just another cell phone. With all the available applications, your iPhone is your personal assistant. Treat it with respect and care and you will receive years of service in exchange for your attentiveness.

The hot, exciting and anticipated 2010 is finally here. Tech geeks all over the world rejoiced with the vast amounts of progress in science and technology, to make gadgets much faster, powerful, smaller and cheaper in the last year. 2009 was quite a mark in the last decade, with loads of new stuff coming out, faster than consumers can actually use. Before we give the final farewell to the past year, let’s have a look at the highlights of the year, what was good, what was bad and what made a mark.

1. Twitter Makes News – Livens up the Internet

Started as a micro blogging site, Twitter has progressed into a social networking site, which some people swear their lives by. Living without Twitter is absolutely impossible for some people, including extremely busy celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher and now, even Bill Gates! When Michael Jackson passed away, most of us did not hear it on the news, rather, we heard it through Twitter. Twitter is quite clearly becoming the hotspot for top news to leak out and spread faster than a wild fire. It has also become a solid medium for social commentary on a massive undeniable scale. So, if you’ve not joined the Twitter bandwagon yet, it’s high time you did so… You don’t want to be a social outcast now, do you?

2. PS3 Loses Fat – The Slim PS3 Makes its Debut

The 11th commandment said: “Let there be a Gaming machine so lean and mean, it would boggle thy mind”. Sony made that quite true by introducing a revolutionary gaming machine a few years back aptly naming it the PlayStation 3. The PS3 finally made a transition from fat to slim cutting down nearly 35% in all departments from size to price to weight to power consumption. Sony made sure that they dominated this holiday season. The Xbox 360 also slimmed down its price (only!) in order to compete with Sony; but that retaliation did not stop the PS3 selling out more than 40,000 slims the first week itself.

3. Motion Sensors, Control-less Gaming, Virtual AI – E3 made a Definitive Mark

Geeks from all around the world watched agape as the two gaming giants, Microsoft and Sony, brought out their motion sensing technologies respectively. These two newly announced gaming beasts, deciphered our inept, without controllers flailing into the somewhat inept flailing of a new gaming avatar. Much hype has already been generated regarding these two machines and the entire world is waiting for it to be released.

4. iPhone, iPod & Touch – Apps Take Over the Internet!

Touching the 1 Billionth mark, Apple has proven yet again, that they’re the best in the business. With over 100s of allegedly named ‘iPhone-Killers’, the original iPhone STILL stands erect as a winner amongst all of the others, putting their money where their mouth is. The iPod touch was quite aptly renamed as an app-toting, gaming and an overall ‘fun’ device to use, while the competition still struggled to push their own app markets ahead.

5. Make Way for Google – The OS market will never be the same again

With biggies like Bill Gates stepping down from their thrones, the path is quite clear for the bad boys at Google to unleash their true fury, by entering into the most competitive and cut-throat market of all, the Operating System souk. Chrome OS, the definitive net book OS, will be changing the way we compute. Well, at least that’s what Google is planning to do. And as it clearly may seem, Google will obviously move on to premium closed source operating systems, to gain an edge on the only stepping stone left in its way. Let’s wait and watch what Google rolls out next.

6. 3D Technology – The Next Big Thing to come AT you (pun intended)

2009 clearly saw a definitive mark of the TVs and LCD monitors moving up a notch. With the advent of technology, 3D is slowly becoming a household object, making real life cinema even easier to achieve. With supportive formats like Blu-Ray, 3D will be immensely enjoyed by the masses, with the major players like Nvidia, Samsung and Sony leading the battlefronts with their latest HD-TVs supporting 3D technology. Gaming consoles have promised to acknowledge the 3D run and will adhere to it as well. The top story of 2010 will be the way 3D progresses.

7. Apple Rejoices – Steve Jobs Returns (and how!)

Steve Jobs, the one person we all know and love, for making some of the most appreciative things in this world (including the mighty mouse, iPhone, iMacs, and the list is endless) returned to Apple as the commander in chief just in time for the launch of yet another revolutionary product, the Apple iPad. His statement “I’m Vertical, back at Apple and loving every minute of it” made waves across tech-fans and supported his comeback with a warm and heartfelt welcome. Welcome back Steve, hope to see some insane new stuff real soon!

8. Cameras – Shake Up the Megapixel World

The wait you endure for decades, for a camera with a wee bit higher ISO to come out, and suddenly all the camera manufacturers go nuts and start churning out one crazy camera after the other. The bar of expectation for cameras has well gone beyond the reach of any new pioneer and things like 3D image capturing, Projectors, Dual Screens (remember the Samsung Vanity Camera?) and all sorts of micro four thirds mechanisms come to you all at once, making these whipper-snappers (oh yes, sounds nice doesn’t it?) worth it’s while and the most dynamic and exuberating product of the year 2009.

9. The Tech Industry Quaked – and Hard!

2009 accounted for one of the most hard-hitting years for the tech industry, accounting for over 150,000 jobs lost worldwide. According to a popular computers reporter, the worst affected companies included HP, Sony, NEC and Panasonic, who cut 25,000, 8,000, 20,000 and 15,000 jobs respectively. Some of the goodie bags at the various tech-launches also got affected, in terms of quality.

10. Spotify – Radio over the Internet, the hottest new trend

February 2009 saw something amazing on the Internet. Spotify made its first appearance back then and now has the capability of boasting over 2 million users (limited to the UK only), Out of which, 2% users pay for the premium service. The service didn’t stop there; it went ahead and made an iPhone specific app to stream music directly to your phone with the possibility of video content. Surely, the Internet is progressing rapidly; let’s hope it does so for the year 2010 as well.

Everyone has been through this scenario at least once: you wake up for another day of sitting at the computer taking care of business, or even just relaxing after a long day of working. You think about a file that you need to open in order to show to a friend, or a file you need to turn in for work or school. You even have the files saved in a place that’s easy to get to — there’s only one problem: the files are gone.

There’s plenty of reasons why the files could have disappeared: viruses, spyware, malware, and software glitches all make the list of items that could have devoured your precious files. One of the best ways to keep this from happening is through a good online file backup site, where your files will stay safe from any dangers.

Why is your work much safer on an online file backup site than on your home computer? Generally speaking, online file backup sites have three key benefits:

1. Higher Security

Most of the time, the companies behind most online file backup sites use a far higher level of security and data protection than we would use on our home computers. This means that the server that will hold your files usually has industry standard firewalls and protection against viruses and spyware. Some online file backup sites even do their own system backups, so that if their computers ever fail, they can restore your precious files quickly and effortlessly.

2. Easy Access

Just because it’s on another computer doesn’t mean that you won’t want to access your files from time to time. Many sites that provide data backup services make it easy for you to log in and access your files at any time, any day of the year. Even if it’s the middle of the night, you will be able to log in to their system and pick up your files. That’s what makes these online backup portals so powerful.

3. Peace of Mind

There’s no way to put a monetary value on peace of mind. For music files that were purchased online, it’s pretty easy to get those back if you lose the copy you have on your computer. However, what about those pictures of that trip you took with your friends and family two years ago? It’s very difficult to replace those photos, even if you wanted to. That’s where a good online backup system comes in — instead of worrying about the next virus or spyware infestation destroying your precious memories, you can upload your files and let someone else think about the technical stuff.

All things considered, online file backup sites should only be a small part of your overall backup strategy. You will still want to backup your important files onto CDs, DVDs, secondary hard drives, and even USB memory sticks if you need your files to be portable. However, the benefits in this guide make one thing clear: online file backup sites are definitely a great choice for anyone wanting to have one more place to take care of their files!

Absolutely Best of the Best

2009 saw some of the most hyped, anticipated and well approved games throughout the decade. Some of the games created mass hysteria amongst the fans, while some others created mass disappointment. Every game has ups and downs, but in the end, the gamers’ opinion counts more than the developers.

Gaming is the next biggest thing and is well appreciated by its audience. The gaming industry is progressing rapidly by the day, churning out better and better games per release. Let’s roll back to the start of the year 2009, and let’s have a look at the top 5 games of 2009.

1. Unchartered 2: Among Thieves

The charismatic fortune hunter, Nathan Drake reappears in Unchartered 2: Among Thieves, which is supposedly an extension (sequel) of the first game itself. A Third person shooter with plenty of action strewn in developed by an award winning game developer, Naughty Dog, Unchartered 2: Among Thieves has broken all records when it came to games.

Exclusive to the Sony’s Playstation 3 platform, gamers (who owned a PS3) all over the world rejoiced at the sight of the first trailer of the game. An excellent all-round game development led to an extremely impressive game, with equally stunning graphics and smooth gameplay.

The camera-action has been well taken care of, and never lets you miss out on even a single artifact within the game. From an amazing single player experience to an equally remarkable multiplayer mode, this game is a complete package of fun, fun and FUN. It’s by far, the most anticipated, the most hyped and the most well received game on the PS3 platform. If you own a PS3 and haven’t tried this game yet, you haven’t seen why the PS3 is worth its salt.

2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

The most hyped and most anticipated game of the year (decade is more appropriate) is no doubt the Call of Duty series’ latest release, Modern Warfare 2. This game has broken all records of sales amongst all the gaming platforms (from PC to the XBOX 360 to the PS3) and gave a new rise to online multiplayer gaming.
This game can quite easily be categorized into the “must have” category of games, no matter if you’re a gamer or not.

Representing the modern gamer, the Call Of Duty series was handed to Infinity Ward, which did a stupendous job of creating the contemporary style of warfare, and the feeling while playing the game was overwhelming. This game offers an amazing unmatched First Person Shooter experience, with an equally outstanding story mode, compiled with an immersive online multiplayer mode. If that wasn’t enough, Infinity Ward has gone out of the way to give the gamer a slick set of mini missions, which will keep you in the mood even if you finish the story mode. If you liked War, this one will make you love it even more.

3. Assassin’s Creed II

Some games come and go, but games like Assassin’s Creed always seem to linger on. Ubisoft hit the jackpot when they released a game as amazing as Assassin’s Creed (a compelling story branched out from the stealth series of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell). The story was based on a never ending battle between the assassin clan and the templars, which was carried forth in its sequel, but a little fast forwarded in time to the Medieval century (the time of the Italians, Art and of course, Leonardo Da Vinci).

This game was an absolutely code marvel, which seems to defy all the games made so far by some of the best game developers out there. Very few games out there can even try to match the mind boggling contrasting qualities that the game has managed to achieve here. The game tries to combine an epic storyline, with beautiful intimacy, light hearted humor and an amazing history. The scale of the game is beyond measurement, not to mention the vastness of the game (takes more than 40 hours to actually complete every part in the game itself). Some of the best parts of the game have been beautifully composed into touching, serene cut-scenes, which will overwhelm you to no limits. To sum up, basically, it’s the 15th century in all its glory.

4. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Very few gamers (mind you, hardcore gamers) out there prefer to play super-hero games. Only reason being they’re usually kiddish and aimed at a very low and unsubstantial gaming market. Rocksteady Studios planned to change this aspect of superhero games. After the success of the latest batman movie, The Dark Knight, an equally impressive game was inevitable.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is a game, which completely shook all the gamers out there, giving a sense of pride, excitement and amazement for the Batman fans out there. The game was an absolute marvel, making you forget that it’s a superhero game, rather, makes you feel as if it’s a professional long-hyped and much awaited game. The first impressions of the game itself gives the player something to hold on to and makes them complete the game at one go. The gripping storyline, outstanding graphics, amazing screen-play and brilliant performance by the original cast of the Batman series (Batman himself and sensational appearances of all his nemesis in the series). If you’re a Batman fan, you HAVE to play this game.

5. Forza Motorsport 3

Exclusive games for consoles are the thing to rave for if you’re a gamer. If it’s exclusive it’s an unwritten rule that the game HAS to be amazing. The amount of efforts that the developers take in making the “exclusive” tag worth is commendable. The games such as Halo, which again live up to the tag of exclusive games, are those, which make having the console that the game is exclusive to, worth owning.

Forza Motorsport 3 does exactly the same. Exclusive to the XBOX 360, the game is an object of marvel. Whether it’s a hot tuner car like the Nissan 370Z, or an American Muscle such as the Mustang GT, or even an exotic car like the sparkling Audi R8 V10, everyone has their favorite dream cars. Driving one of their dream cars in glorious detail is possible with the Forza Motorsport 3. This game is aimed for serving gamers of all skill levels, unlike some simulation racing games; you have to be an extremely well equipped driver, in order to not go crashing off the street into the crowds. The game allows you to forget the minute details (if you’re not an extremist) and just enjoy the game and aim on nailing those corners with amazing drifts and swerves. If you’re an XBOX 360 owner and you like the casual racing games, Forza Motorsport 3 should definitely be in your games list.

This might seem like a far fetched notion, but it is actually not as outlandish as you might think. At the MIT media lab Europe in Dublin just not too long ago, some researchers developed a system in which no wires are needed for a player to control a video game character with their mind. This may seem like a dream come true if you are a video game lover, and if you are young, odds are good that, before your life-time is over, you will see this system hit the store shelves.

Of course, it needs some serious fine tuning, and there are restrictions. But, the idea is there, and the technology is very possible. With some more testing and research, it may be an idea that is marketable. The idea started as researchers were looking for a way to help people who are either physically impaired or people who were paralyzed. If we could help these people use a computer, then they could communicate like normal with everyone else. A neuro-controller like this would enable people with normal brainwave function to use a computer or to play video games, regardless of their physical condition. It would definitely be a breakthrough, that is for sure.

The research continues, but scientists remain optimistic. With the progress that the program has shown so far, it is not hard to imagine a future where all video games are able to operate free of a controller. This idea to “jack in” to video games has been around for a long time, but only recently has it actually been though a plausible possibility. Only time will tell whether or not it will actually work commercially, but odds seem to be in our favor! With more research, there is no reason why this technology cannot be used.

The end of the year is always a perfect time to give gifts the people closest to your heart. What better gift can there be other than the gift of technology? Sure, for the more technical around you, the latest shiny gadget might be a little out of place. So, what do you give the person that supposedly has ever technical gadget known to man? There are a few things — three of them, to be exact — that will make the season just a little more jolly.

1. Wireless Charging Stations

When all-in-one charging stations first came out, they were all the rage among just about every class of geek you could think of, from gamers to business types. However, there’s a new class of charging station that has everyone curious: the wireless charging station. Life without cords has truly become the marker of a life without limits, at least with respect to technology. The Powermat Portable Charging Mat lets your favorite geek charge up to three devices at once through magnetic induction - no cords, just fast charging made simple.

2. Cord Keepers

It’s just about possible to completely eliminate all the cords in your favorite geek’s life, so why not keep them as organized and accessible as possible? Enter the PowerSquid, a neat surge protector that is designed to eliminate cord tangles and snags. If you’ve ever had to plug in multiple large “brick sized” power adapters, you know how frustrating it can be to make everything fit. With the PowerSquid, that’s not a problem due to the long separate extension cords that extend from the main unit. Make sure to get the surge protector version in order to keep your special geek’s electronics protected against the unexpected.

3. Rechargeable Battery Kits

Batteries are as much apart of geek life as downloads and forums are. If your special someone is concerned about the environment and trying to be more “green”, giving them a rechargeable battery station is very thoughtful present. An affordable option is the Juice Multi-Battery Charger Kit. As the name implies, you aren’t just limited to one type of battery. You can charge both AA and AAA batteries in this charger, as well as both alkaline and NiMH batteries. Unlike other chargers, the Juice Kit monitors signs of battery damage and immediately stops charging. It’s always good to play it safe with batteries to avoid injury from acid.

The goal isn’t to get your special someone the biggest tech gift you can find — quite the opposite, actually. These suggestions all revolve around very small items that can be used year-round. This means that every time they use the item, they’ll think of you.

Overall, finding the perfect tech gift isn’t as hard as it sounds once you get past the shiny gadgets and go back to small, supportive pieces of tech gear that will help your favorite person get more done in little ways for months, if not years to come!

It is no surprise to most of us that cell phones emit radiation as we chat, but how much do they really let off? Actually, they all let off different amounts. Some of them are not so bad, while others are letting off a surprisingly high amount of radiation as we talk away with our free night and weekend minutes! So, what are the phones that are doing well in the radiation department?

Well, if you want phones that are really not letting off much radiation at all, try a Samsung Impression, a Motorola RAZR V8, a Samsung Rugby, a Samsung SGH-t229, a Samsung Propel Pro, a T-Mobile Sidekick, a Samsung Gravity, an LG Xenon, a Sanyo Katana II, or a Motorola Karma QA1.

Want to know which phones are bleeding the most negative energy? Well, the Motorola MOTO VU204 leads the pack right along with the T-Mobile myTouch 3G and the Kyocera Jax S1300. Following closely behind are the Blackberry Curve 8330, the Motorola W385, the T-Mobile Shadow, the Motorola i335, the Motorola C290, the Motorola MOTO VE240, and the Blackberry Bold 9000.

It seems that Samsung is doing a good job at keeping most of its phones on the up and up, while Motorola just cannot seem to keep from spewing negative Karma into your ear as you talk to you top friends. Just how dangerous is this radiation? If we knew it was dangerous, there would probably be laws preventing their manufacture, so a good, old fashioned “who knows?” is about as good an answer as you are going to get in most cases.

Some studies suggest otherwise, but these phones are, as well, well within the legal limit for radiation emission, making it difficult for anyone to preach against their use. After all, they are devices that keep us in constant contact with the rest of the world, can we expect it to come with no byproducts whatsoever?

As everyone is talking about the new Call of Duty game coming out later this year, there is also a lot of un-verified nonsense running amuck online. Here, we are going to discuss what we will get to see in the new edition to Cod, and we will only investigate those facts which we know to be true.

First off, there have been some rumors claiming that the multiplayer leveling up system will be more rpg based. For example, you would acquire perks by performing certain actions a certain number of times. So, for example, you might acquire extreme conditioning by sprinting for a certain distance during online gameplay. This rumor is unverified. Whether this is true or not has yet to be determined, but it is not verified. It would be awesome, but nobody knows yet. Well, nobody but Infinity Ward.

Another rumor says that you will also customize your soldier. You will choose clothes, gear, etc. And these will influence what perks like juggernaught you will earn. While this is a more likely scenario (it is hard to believe that the game would not possess this feature) this rumor is also unverified.

There has been a lot of talk about being able to put multiple attachments on your weapons, including silencers and bipods on your sniper rifles. This is also un-verified, though it is a likely possibility. The multiplayer game-play, while maybe the most anticipated aspect of the game, is also the one getting kept under wraps the longest. There might also be vehicles. This is verified in single player, but unverified in the multiplayer.

Who can say what will happen? All we can do is wait for IW to unveil this new masterpiece.
