A lot has been happening the past few months in the chip manufacturing business. While on one hand Intel’s sales have been soaring, the tiny rival AMD has been struggling. Not many years ago, Intel was troubled at the rate which AMD was eating into it’s profits.

Today, Things are a bit different. Intel still maintains it’s monopoly in the microprocessor business. With sales just dwindling by the day, AMD had no choice, but to take drastic steps in order to be in a position to take on Intel. It features 1600 SPs (800 from each 4870), and features an unheard 2 GB of GDDR5 memory that operates at a whopping 3600 MHz. The phrase gross overkill comes to mind. AMD has gone all out with this one, and the 4870 x2 is supposed to do what the single GPU version couldn’t – dethrone the mighty GRX 280 and restore ATI’s place at the helm of the 3D performance realm again – a position it has not gained after it’s now ancient 9800 Pro cards. Cooler Master Hyper 212

The efficiency of a CPU cooler depends on the design of the heat sink, type of fan and materials used. The Hyper 212 is designed like a tower and stands a whopping 160mm tall. The heat sink has two stacks of aluminum fins with four copper heat pipes running through each of them. The heat pipes transfer heat from the copper base to the fins. Read more…
