How to boost your PC speed

Most of us get frustrated when our computers slows down when we access the internet or do something simple as search our files. Here are few easy tips that will probably boost your PC speed.

Clean up disk errors

Did you know that when a programme crashes it may create some errors on hard disk which slows down computers speed?

There is a easy way to fix this. Just go to “My Computer” and right-click on the drive you want to check for errors and click on Properties.  When you are in the Properties dialogue box, click on the Tools tab. There will be an Error-Checking section there were you need to press the Check Now button.

Depending on your errors it may take up to an hour to check and clean.

Remove temporary files

Did you know that whenever you are working on programmes like Microsoft Word, Excel or browse through the Web, your computer is storing temporary files which ends up slowing down your PC speed?

By using Windows Disk Cleanup you will be able to clear unused files from your PC.

Organise your data

Did you know that your computer breaks files into pieces to increase the speed of access and retrieval? Your computer is saving files on the space available on the hard drive, which results in fragmented files.

To speed up your computer it´s good to “defrag” the hard drive from time to time. Using a Disk Defragmenter programme you will be able to to needle all your files back together, which will boost your PC speed.

In case you are not aware, in Windows XP, you’ll find the Disk Defragmenter under All Programs – Accessories – System Tools.

Install anti-virus

Viruses and spyware are biggest culprits behind slow PC performance. You have to make sure that your anti-virus and anti-spyware programmes are frequently updated to avoid any attack on your computer.
