It´s not always easy to carry a laptop while travelling longer distance. Not enough battery power just when you need it at most, spare cables, security problem and network issues are just few of the problems you have to deal with. Here are few tips to keep you ready while travelling.
Charge your battery
It´s easy to forget to charge your battery before leaving. There is a chance that you won´t be sitting near a plug point so it´s always good to have your battery fully charged. If your budget allow you to invest in a higher capacity battery you should definitly do that. New nine cell batteries give up to six hours of power when used with proper power saving measures.
Conserve power
Depending on the size of the laptop and the age of your battery, a finite store of power could range anywhere from 1 to 8 hours. By using a few power saving modes you can increase your battery life by an hour or two.
The screen display is one of the biggest consumer of power and reducing the brightness of the screen significantly decreases battery consumption.
It´s also a good idea if you disconnect an external mouse or hard disk drive that may be connected via USB port if you don´t need it. Remember to switch of the WLAN switch on your laptop if you are not using it as this consumes big amounts of power.
How to guard
Thieves would love a chance to get their hands on your laptop. Use USB Locks or chains built specifically for your laptop to keep it safe.
By using these security devices you will prevent thieves and identity thieves from taking control of your laptop. Devices like finger print scanners are also as helpful.
Always enable firewall
If you are using wireless internet connection on unsecured places such as coffee shops or hotel lobbies, always remember to enable a firewall to prevent anyone from accessing data from your laptop. This way you will minimize the risk of someone sending your notebook a virus over the wireless network.
