With plenty of data storage a thing of past, the 1 TB hard drives now-a-days are like “meh, It’s so less.. I want more”. But, Maxtor won’t give up. It keeps developing new external hard drives with better performance with each update. The latest flavor from Maxtor is OneTouch Plus, the 1TB version. The drive offers a nice plethora of connectivity options. Powered by an external adapter, It features one USB 2.0 and two firewire ports. The device will blow you away with it’s awesome looks with neatly arranged ports and buttons.
Usually, the external hard drives are powered internally, via the USB or Firewire ports on 5V power supplies. But this being a 7200 RPM hard drive, along with a high size cache buffer, it would require a proper 12V DC supply to sustain itself. The drive has a great amount of features to offer including
1) 1 TB of Unformatted Space
2) Internal Spindle Speed: 7200 rpm
3) Cache Buffer: 16MB
4) FireWire 400
5) USB 2.0
This drive can be used easily to back up your entire hard drive’s data, unless you use space more than 1 TB, which is unlikely. The hard drive is supplied with it’s signature software application, The Maxtor SafetyDrill for backing up your system. It’s a very easy-to-use application, with WYSIWYG interface. You can backup or synchronize your data or create an image of the operating system as it is.
This image can be later restored, ALONG with things such as the Master Boot Record (MBR) and other such hardware configuration settings of the original system hard disk. It would be a boon with such a feature to rescue your disk back to it’s last working state, incase of a crash. The read write speeds are quite good. A great buy if you’re looking for large, yet portable storage solutions.
This drive is available for a reasonable $220.
